NSCAA DIPLOMA COURSES

MSI Classic’s affiliation with US Club Soccer brings exciting opportunities, including the opportunity to align ourselves more closely with the superior coaching education programs of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). During the month prior to each Fall and Spring season, MSI hosts the NSCAA’s Regional Diploma Course, and this course now is the required course for all Classic coaches. During the same weekend, we will be offering either the Advanced Regional Course (equivalent of the USSF "D" license) or the State Goalkeeping course. Attending coaches will have the opportunity to register for one OR both of the courses. (Coaches from all MSI programs are invited to enroll.)

The Regional course will focus on teaching the basics for working with children, emphasizing the guided discovery method of coaching. Individual techniques and skills demonstrated include short passing, ball control, screening and turning with the ball, winning the ball, and movement skills/speed. Basic tactical concepts are also covered. The Regional course runs 13 hours and will be held on Friday evening and all day on Saturday. The Advanced Regional Diploma is an 8-hour course devoted to technical and tactical uses of small-sided games, the study of systems of play and a practice teaching component. In order to take the Advanced Regional Diploma course, coaches must have obtained the Regional Dipoma in a previously offered course. (Sorry, but the NSCAA does not recognize the USSF "E" license as a pre-requisite for their Advanced Regional course.) The overall objective of the State Goalkeeping Diploma is to explore some of the myths and mystiques surrounding the goalkeeping function.  The six-hour course is directed towards the team coach - not the specialist goalkeeper coach.  The object is to empower the coach with knowledge and practice methods that will enable the coach to evaluate a goalkeeper in game situations and then design an appropriate practice program for goalkeepers in and outside of team practices.  The course includes lecture (theory) and field (practical) sessions.

2010 WINTER COACH DEVELOPMENT SERIES

MSI considers our coaches our most important resource with regard to player development, and that the more education our coaches receive, the better an experience our players will have. We also realize that many of our coaches are very busy and cannot travel to attend costly and lengthy coaching courses. Therefore, MSI is committed to bringing high quality, no cost, short, coach development opportunities to Montgomery County for all of you. We hope you enjoy the clinics and pass on the knowledge you acquire to your players.

Each date includes two one hour presentations by highly qualified coaches followed by 15 minutes of Q & A. There is no fee or registration required to attend any of the clinics. Just show up with pen and paper ready to take notes and learn.
