MSI is proud to partner with MSYSA (Maryland State Youth Soccer Association) and US Soccer to host Grassroots Coaching Courses. Since 2017, the Grassroots program has replaced the F and E licenses as the introductory step in the US Soccer Coaching License Pathway. Grassroots courses are offered in the four main game formats played in US Soccer: 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11. In the Classic League, all coaches must have completed at least one grassroots license as a minimum coaching qualification. Coaches may have a one-season grace period to attain a grassroots certification.
Currently, courses are offered in either an online only, asynchronous format or a live blended format consisting of a Zoom class and a field session. In order to advance to the D License, a coach must complete courses for two game formats in the live format as well as the online version for an additional game format.
If you have never taken a US Soccer coaching course, start by clicking here to create your free account at the US Soccer Learning Center. There is a free online introductory course that must be completed before beginning a Grassroots course. Once you start a live course, you will be prompted to complete SafeSport training via US Soccer if you haven’t done so previously.
