Purpose of Player Assessments
MSI conducts Player Assessment sessions to evaluate players wishing to play on any teams in the Classic League, to determine if this is the best level of play for that individual. These are required for all potential U9 and U10 players. They are also available to players in U11 and U12 age groups but are not required at those ages.
If you attended travel tryouts and were rated at the Classic level, you do not need to attend the Player Assessments. If you played Classic League in the spring season, you do not need to attend the Player Assessments.

Player Assessments
The assessment consists of the opportunity to play in several different small-sided games with and against a variety of teammates and opponents while being evaluated by the MSI coaching staff. If an individual is assessed at the Classic Level, players may try out for Classic teams and can inform those teams that they have been assessed as being at the Classic level of play.
A player assessed at the Classic Level can play at their age group or one age group up. You do not need to have attended the Player Assessment at the specific age group in which you wish to play.
A player who is placed in the Classic Players Pool is NOT guaranteed a roster spot on a Classic team. All potential Classic players should contact Classic teams to request a tryout. Teams looking for new players can be found on the MSI website under the Classic Tryout Notices page.
Process of Player Assessments
After an assessment is complete, the results are tabulated and posted on the MSI website. Those players that are rated at the Classic level, will have their player number that they wore to the assessment posted as being entered in the “Classic Players Pool”. Others will be posted as being entered in the “Recreational Players Pool”. You should retain your player’s assigned number to check the status when it is posted on the website.
MSI encourages families to “interview” one or more Classic teams to determine the best fit for their child. Each Classic team is autonomous and managed individually. Players and their families need to carefully consider the numerous factors involved with choosing a team, including the personality and qualifications of the coach; location, date, and time of practices; cost (which is different for each team), and philosophy of play.
If a player has ALREADY registered for the MSI Recreational Program and is then selected to play for a Classic team, the player must withdraw from the Recreation Program by the program transfer deadline in order to be eligible to play in the Classic league and to receive a refund for the Recreational Program registration. A player registered for Rec cannot withdraw to play in the Classic League after August 1, 2023.
MSI IS NOT ABLE TO DISCLOSE OR RELEASE ANY INDIVIDUAL PLAYER SCORES OR INFORMATION FROM THE PLAYER ASSESSMENTS. A player who is rated into the Recreational Players Pool may still try out for one or more Classic teams.
Each U9 and U10 team may have up to four players on their roster that have not been assessed at the Classic level. At U11 and older, there are no requirements for players on the Classic team having attended a Player Assessment session. For those players, the Player Assessment is an opportunity for those that are unsure of their level of play to find out if the Classic League would be the right level.
Registration will close when we have reached capacity or at 11:00 pm the day prior to the assessment. No walk-up registrations will be accepted. You may only attend ONE assessment session, and you may not attend another assessment until the next season.
