Cherry Blossom

The MSI Cherry Blossom is a great way to kick off the spring season competitively! The tournament is open to all MSI Rec and Classic teams, and local area ‘Classic level’ travel teams, providing a competitive and fun tune-up for the start of the spring season. Games will be played on turf fields in Montgomery County, spread over two weekends, based on team gender.

PARTICIPANTS

The Cherry Blossom is for MSI Classic and Rec teams and Metro-DC area ‘Classic-level’ travel teams. Guest players are allowed, up to a maximum of half your roster size. These guest players must be registered with MSI or registered within your league of participation and must be able to show proof of registration with MSYSA or a US Youth Soccer-affiliated club. Roster sizes will be based on the maximum size of the roster used for the upcoming spring season.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • U9-U10 /3rd-4th Grade: 7v7
  • U11-U12 /5th-6th Grade: 9v9
  • U13 /7th Grade and above: 11v11

The age bracket of divisions is determined based on the number of teams registered, but will not be combined with more than one year older. All teams will play 3 games over the weekend, 25-minute halves for U9 and U10 and 30-minute halves for all other ages, 5 minutes for half time. Championship games will be played on Sunday afternoon for the top two teams in each age group or age division. Medals will be awarded to winners and runners-up. 


Some games are scheduled for Friday evening. Results will be recorded and standings determined on the basis of points awarded per game, 3 points for a win, and 1 point for a tie.


Semi-finals (if needed) and final games that end in a tie will result in two 5-minute halves of extra time (no sudden death). Semi-finals (if needed) and final games that remain tied after extra time will be decided by FIFA’s penalty shootout procedure.

TOURNAMENT FEES

  • U9-U10 /3rd-4th Grade: $380
  • U11-U12 /5th-6th Grade: $440
  • U13 /7th Grade and above: $485

The price is per team, paying by check. Add an additional 3.65% for credit card transaction fees or 1.9% for bank transfer fees.


Refund Policy: if the tournament must be canceled in its entirety, full refunds will be provided. If teams play at least one game, no refunds will be provided (recognizing that there are many fixed costs associated with the event).

Scores and standings are available in your LeagueApps account for all teams competing in the tournament.


All players and staff registered will see their team's schedule in their LeagueApps account. If you are in a group of 6, your third game is a semi-final, which will not show in your account until the teams have been determined after two games.
