Countdown to the Spring Season!

MSI Recreation Soccer

Each season, thousands of athletes play on an MSI Recreation team! The MSI Recreation program is the foundation of our youth players’ soccer journey. We strive to create a safe, fun, and supportive environment where players can learn and enjoy the game together. Each player is guaranteed to play at least half the game, and players of all skill and experience levels are welcome. There are no tryouts for any MSI recreational team.

Unlike other clubs, youth players can choose to play on MSI’s recreational teams at any grade—from first-grade classmates learning a new skill to multi-sport high school athletes balancing a demanding schedule. Dedicated volunteers lead our Recreation Program teams. Players can participate in either the fall or spring MSI Recreation sessions.

How does the MSI Recreation program work?

The MSI Recreation program operates on a seasonal basis, offering both fall and spring sessions for players from first grade through high school. Teams are formed based on grade level, school zone, neighborhood, and/or geographic area. No tryouts are required or allowed, ensuring inclusivity for players of all skill and experience levels. The program guarantees at least half-game playing time for every player, fostering a supportive environment where children can learn and enjoy soccer without the pressure of high-level competition.

Game formats vary by age group, ranging from 4v4 for first graders to 11v11 for high school players. Dedicated volunteers lead the teams as coaches and managers, creating a community-driven atmosphere. The program stands out by accommodating the needs of different age groups, from young children just beginning their soccer journey to high school students balancing multiple sports and busy schedules. Financial aid is also available for eligible families, making the program accessible to a wider range of participants.

More Information

Practices

In mid-March, players and their families will be notified by the player’s coach with the day, time, and field where practices will be held.  If contact has not been made by March 21, please contact the appropriate coordinator for your child’s grade.

Rainouts – Practice

For practice fields, you can check the Montgomery County Rainout Line for field closures. MSI has a page of suggested activities for when you cannot use your designated practice field. Important: If the field is open but we have recently had rain, please stay out of the penalty area to protect that part of the field.

Games

Teams have an eight-game schedule on Saturdays or Sundays beginning the weekend of March 28. Game start times can begin as early as 8:30 AM or as late as 7:00 PM.

Rainouts-Games

If rainouts occur on game day, those games are rescheduled on an available Saturday or Sunday prior to the end of the season. In your LeagueApps account, a rained-out game may be removed from your schedule or occasionally changed to a major holiday (Thanksgiving or December 25) as a place holder until it is rescheduled. Field closures will be posted to the MSI website in the scrolling announcements. It is always a good idea to check the MSI website even on a sunny day when there have been recent rainy days for field closures.
