Winter League

MSI’s Winter League continues to grow and offer an opportunity to play outdoors with your teammates over the winter.

Who participates in the Winter League?

The Winter League is for Recreation and Classic teams and is also open for MSYSA or VYSA-affiliated travel teams to participate. Teams can be made up of any age-appropriate player that is registered with MSI Recreation or Classic programs, or players that can show proof of current registration with a state-affiliated club. All players must be added to a team’s roster and sign the appropriate waivers.

Winter League Team Schedules

Teams and divisions can be found here: MSI Winter League Teams.

For each game, the team listed as the ‘Home’ team should provide a match ball and will change jerseys in case of a color conflict with the opposition. Make a not of this in advance to avoid having to change jerseys at the field!

Schedules for the whole season have been posted in LeagueApps. If the schedule does not appear on your LeagueApps account, please ask your team manager or coach to invite you to your Winter League team so that schedules appear in your LeagueApps account. Schedules can also be found here. Scroll to the respective age group, click on the heading and then click on ‘schedules’ on the right hand side to see the games in that age group.

League Formats

All teams will play an 8 game season. 7v7 ages will play with 25-minute halves, all other ages will play 30-minute halves. Though scores will be recorded, there are no standings nor trophies at the end of the season – the MSI Winter League is an opportunity to continue to play outdoor soccer over the winter, without designated practices, to focus on player development – not to win silverware or concentrate on results.

U9-U10 /3rd-4th Grade: 7v7

U11-U12 /5th-6th Grade: 9v9

U13 /7th Grade and older: 11v11

Refunds will be given in full prior to the start of the season if MSI is unable to provide an appropriate division for your team based on age, gender, or level of play.

Rosters Rules

Rosters are not required to be shown to referees at each game, but a roster of players must be completed in the team’s LeagueApps account, under the ‘MSI Tournaments and Festivals‘ Site, prior to the start of the Winter League. Rosters can be copied from previous MSI tournaments. Players can be added to your roster during the winter, with MSI being notified when they are added. There is no limit on the number of players on your roster, nor the number of teams a player can join during the Winter League, so long as they do not exceed the age group requirements. Click on this how to video for copying rosters from a previous MSI tournament.
